Earned media · how it works

Coverage you earn,
not buy.

We build data-driven stories and expert commentary, pitch them to real journalists, and land genuine editorial coverage on authority outlets. KPI-guaranteed — and we work free until we hit it.

Earned media is the moat: genuine editorial coverage, pitched to journalists and won on the strength of the story — never paid for. It’s slower than paid placements because it runs on the news cycle, but the links are more authoritative, durable, and Google-safe. We sell it as a product, with hard KPI guarantees.

FAQ

Earned media questions

What counts as “earned” media?

Earned media is genuine editorial coverage: we pitch a real story to journalists and they choose to cover it. It’s never paid placement — and that’s exactly what makes the resulting links durable, Google-safe, and trusted.

What’s the KPI guarantee?

Each campaign guarantees 8–12 earned links, with at least 2 on sites rated DR70+ and 1M+ monthly traffic. If we miss the target, we keep creating and pitching stories for free until we hit it.

Can you guarantee coverage in a specific outlet like Forbes?

We guarantee the link counts and authority thresholds, not a specific named outlet — journalists ultimately decide what they publish. If you want a guaranteed placement in a specific top-tier title, that’s our separate Marquee product.

How long does a campaign take?

The first cycle typically runs 6–8 weeks, from story creation through pitching and landing coverage. Kickoff is same-day once we have your details.

Who creates the story, and what’s it about?

We do — using original data studies, surveys, and expert commentary built to earn coverage. To maximize pickup we may broaden the angle into topics adjacent to your exact niche (for example, accounting software might become a wider small-business finance story).

Can I choose the anchor text or URL?

Usually not — the outlet controls how it links, most often to your brand name or homepage. That editorial independence is exactly what keeps earned links valuable and Google-safe.

Are the links do-follow?

It’s a mix. We push for do-follow links, but earned mentions on high-authority outlets carry real SEO and trust value either way. Syndicated duplicates and unlinked mentions don’t count toward your guaranteed total.

How is this different from paid placements?

Earned coverage is pitched and won, not bought — it’s more authoritative and durable, but runs on the news cycle (6–8 weeks). Paid placements are faster and let you choose the site. Many clients use both. See how paid media works »
